Frequently Asked Questions
-
How do I complete the sign-up process?
It is best to arrange a quick sign up appointment at a time to suit you at our site, but when necessary, we can also do this remotely over email.
-
Do I need a padlock?
Your CF Storage container will come with its own high-grade padlock. There is additional space on the door for extra padlocks if you wish.
-
How do I pay and when?
When you first sign up, you pay for the first month and any lock deposit required. Then from the second month onwards, all of our customers are on our automated payments system. This system automatically emails invoices to you each month and then draws the payment from your bank account via GoCardless direct debit. It’s great as you don’t have to anything and when you leave, we just cancel this and then refund any rental overpayment including your lock deposit to your account.
-
How can I reserve or book a container?
You can call us during working hours, 8.30am to 5pm – Monday to Friday, or you can send us an email at info@cfstorage.co.uk.
-
When can I access my storage container?
Our self-storage access hours are 7am to 9pm, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.
We do allow customers to visit outside of these hours, you just need to let us know.
-
Will my belongings be safe and secure?
We understand how important your belongings are to you, otherwise you wouldn’t be storing them! Our site is fully security fenced, with 24/7 CCTV and recorded gate openings. The containers are made out of high grade Corten steel and locked with our highest-grade padlock in the lock shroud.
In addition, you can put secondary locks on the doors. We are a working site, with residential property within the site, so we have a regular physical site presence unlike a lot of ‘remote’ storage sites.
-
Are my belongings insured?
We don’t insure your contents, but neither do we make it mandatory that you do so. It’s up to the customer to make their own judgement on whether the value of the goods/security of our site a justified risk is or worth insuring at a cost. We are happy to recommend appropriate self-storage insurers should you wish to do so. They make it very easy and it’s not exceedingly expensive.
-
What about damp / condensation?
Our containers are completely waterproof and are designed to spend months/years at a time either on the sea or in situ with dry goods remaining dry! We’ve had customers storing furniture with us for over ten years without any problems. What we do advise is that customers avoid bringing moisture into the container. Whilst each container has numerous vents, any water brought in will evaporate and then take time to escape. With this in mind, try not to load the container in the rain, ensure freezers are defrosted and washing machines etc are fully drained down.
If you put dry goods in, they will stay dry!
For extra protection and peace of mind, all of our newer units have had the ceilings treated with market leading spray insulation, which assists in reducing the impact of significant temperature change. -
I’m not sure how much space I need, what if I need another container?
One of the main advantages of using CFSTORAGE is our range of container sizes. Sometimes our customers fill their container and have a slight amount of overspill. Fear not, as instead of having to take on another large or medium sized container, we have little ones too! It’s not easy to judge the amount of space you will need, but we can accommodate the most efficient use of space and lowest cost to you for the space you actually need.
If a customer needs a secondary container, we try to get you one as close as possible to your first one. You could even start with a small one and upgrade to a larger one, or vice versa.
-
Is there anything I can’t store?
At CF Storage, we believe that your container is your space. But we ask customers not to store the following.
Explosives / flammable items, food or other perishable goods, damp or wet goods, animals, plants, anything that could leak oil and stain/damage the unit.
We do allow storage of vehicles/motorbikes but ask the customers to advise us about this.
-
I’m ready to leave, how much notice do I need to give?
We kindly ask for one weeks’ notice via email or text. You then just need to clean out your container, and then leave the keys in the letter box next to our gate, texting/emailing to confirm your departure. We then process your refund within 10 days, which includes your original deposit and any rent that you’ve overpaid.
-
Will you visit my home/site to view my suitability for container delivery / container hire?
We can advise on the restrictions that cause issue to container delivery like tight access, overhead cables, soft ground etc. A lot of this can be gauged over the phone or by sending pictures to us on email of the potential drop off location. In this doesn’t solve the potential questions, we can arrange a visit to your site, for onsite advice and recommendation.
-
What if I decide to buy my container to end the hire?
Quite a few of our container hire customers decide to purchase the container when they realise how useful it is! That’s fine, we take the amount of hire paid into account and quote you a competitive rate for the purchase of the container.
-
Why is it cheaper to hire a container rather than self-storage on your site?
Our self-storage takes into account the space that the container takes up on our site, but also the high level of security we provide you with. The containers we hire out are of exactly the same high quality, but you are using your own space and proving your own security, so the rate is lower.
-
Why use CF Storage hire rather than one of the large national firms?
We have two unique selling points. Firstly, we only hire out immaculate containers that look really smart and this reflects on your home or site. The majority of other companies use older ex-shipping containers which have all of the scars / dents and rust associated with the previous use and age of the containers.
We only hire out containers we’d be happy to put on our own front drive. No one wants an eyesore! Secondly, we can get containers where others can’t with our off-road / tight access delivery method. Other firms only use lorries and this restricts the places you can get a container.
